A floral tribute

The next time you see Manfred Leimgardt in town, say a word of thanks
for his efforts in tending our floral baskets and planters along Main
Street. While other communities have greenhouses and municipal
staffing to look after Main Street floral displays, ours is
spearheaded and funded entirely by the Stayner Chamber of Commerce.
Without the benefit of a greenhouse, Manfred consults with some of the
pros to come up with a planting scheme and sets out the baskets which
essentially mature in place. With careful watering and aggressive
fertilizing the flowers usually can be counted on to hit their stride
by mid to late summer. Then we’re at the mercy of the frosts just as
the displays are at their showiest point. For those who get downtown
early enough, you’re likely to see Manfred’s orange lawn tractor
crawling down the sidewalk as he carries out the daily watering. The
Chamber is grateful for Manfred’s willingness to serve his community.
